Welcome to Rock Music Critic! Check out reviews in the Flash menu above or the static links below. This latest version of the site now includes reviews with an embedded music player so you can listen to whole albums once for free courtesy of Lala.com. Lala doesn't always have an album, but when they do I will include the player. What's easier than listening to an album to decide whether you like it? Feel free to ignore my petty ramblings and just listen to the tunes. That's really the whole point anyway. Up the Irons!! ~ George
Tarot
Suffer Our Pleasures
It is an affront to my metal pride to find that Tarot have been floating around since the 80's and I have not heard of them prior to this release. I felt the same way when I discovered Blind Guardian in the late to mid 90's (though BG was a much larger discovery.)
This disc has a very dated 80's/early 90's sound to it, take that how you will. I personally like a nice 80's sound if it is done well. This has a nice modern production sound to it though, so it's not totally steeped in yester-year.
At times this almost reminds me of a slightly heavier Dio. Heh. Cool. *devil horns*
Man, this really takes me back in the day. I'm going to have to look into getting some of their back catalog to see what that is like.
I think of this as power metal, but not like power metal of today. More like Running Wild of old. I like this a lot. The first time I listened to this I didn't really like it because of how dated and unoriginal it sounded. But upon further listening I believe my initial impression was wrong, maybe I was in a bad mood, because now I really am getting into this, stereotypical of 80's metal as it may be. I'm from the 80's myself so I can appreciate it.
Thumbs up dude. Check it out.
